News that serves different needs

Not everyone reads news the same way. Some want quick updates during their commute. Others need detailed analysis for business decisions. And some are looking to reach audiences, not just consume content.

Solidflow exists at this intersection. We're an information portal that publishes verified content across a wide range of topics — politics, business, technology, culture, local Toronto happenings. But we also work with organizations who want to communicate through us.

This page explains the different ways people and organizations engage with what we do. Whether you're here to read, advertise, partner, or contribute.

How people use Solidflow

Six distinct audiences, each with specific needs.

For individual readers

You want news you can trust without wading through clickbait. We publish daily content ranging from breaking news alerts to longer analytical pieces, all fact-checked before publication. Our coverage spans local Toronto events, Canadian national news, and international stories that matter. Free to access, with optional newsletter subscriptions for topic-specific updates delivered to your inbox.

For business audiences

Decision-makers need more than headlines. Our business coverage includes market analysis, regulatory changes, economic indicators, and industry-specific reporting that affects planning and strategy. We also offer curated briefings — condensed summaries of relevant news for teams who need to stay informed but lack time to read everything. Corporate subscriptions available for organizations wanting priority access.

For advertisers

Reach engaged readers who actively seek information rather than passively scroll. We offer display advertising, sponsored content opportunities, and newsletter placements across our various topic verticals. All sponsored content is clearly labeled — we don't do deceptive native advertising. Our audience skews educated professionals in the Greater Toronto Area, though our digital reach extends nationally.

For press offices

Government agencies, corporations, and institutions need reliable channels to communicate with the public. We accept press releases and official statements for editorial consideration — we review, verify, and sometimes expand upon them with additional reporting. Direct contact line available for time-sensitive announcements. We're not a wire service, but we do prioritize newsworthy institutional communications.

For media partners

Other news organizations, content aggregators, and media platforms can syndicate Solidflow content through licensing arrangements. We also engage in content-sharing partnerships where mutual benefit exists. If you operate a complementary publication — whether hyperlocal, industry-specific, or international with Canadian coverage gaps — there may be collaboration opportunities worth exploring.

For bloggers and authors

Writers with expertise or unique perspectives can contribute to Solidflow as guest authors. We're particularly interested in subject-matter experts willing to explain complex topics in accessible language. Pitches welcome. We pay for published contributions, though rates vary based on topic, length, and the author's platform. This isn't an open submission free-for-all — we curate carefully.

How we typically work together

The path from initial contact to ongoing relationship.

1

Initial conversation

You reach out — by phone, email, or through the website. We figure out which category you fall into and what you're actually looking for. Sometimes it's obvious. Sometimes it takes a few questions.

2

Needs assessment

For anything beyond basic reader subscriptions, we spend time understanding your specific situation. An advertiser launching a local campaign has different needs than a PR firm managing crisis communications. We ask about timelines, budgets, and goals.

3

Proposal and terms

We put together something concrete — pricing, deliverables, timelines. For partnerships, this might involve lawyers. For advertising, it's usually straightforward rate cards. Either way, you know exactly what you're getting before committing.

4

Execution and delivery

Content goes live. Ads run. Partnerships launch. We handle our end and communicate proactively if anything changes. You'll have a contact person who actually responds to emails.

5

Review and continuation

Most relationships here aren't one-time transactions. We check in periodically, share performance data where relevant, and adjust approaches based on what's working. Or not working.

Questions we hear often

Do you accept unsolicited article submissions?

Yes, but with caveats. We receive many pitches and publish relatively few. Strong pitches come from writers with demonstrable expertise in their proposed topic. Include relevant writing samples and a clear angle — not just a vague topic area.

How do you handle sponsored content versus editorial?

They're completely separate. Sponsored content is labeled as such and doesn't go through our editorial process in the same way. Advertisers cannot pay for favorable editorial coverage, and our newsroom operates independently from commercial relationships.

What's your typical turnaround for press release coverage?

Depends on newsworthiness and timing. A genuinely breaking announcement might get same-day coverage. Routine corporate updates might take 2-3 days, or might not get covered at all. We're not obligated to publish everything sent to us.

Can businesses request specific reporters for interviews?

You can request, but assignments are made by editors based on reporter expertise and availability. We won't reassign a story because a source prefers a different journalist. That said, we're usually reasonable about scheduling.

What geographic areas do you actually cover?

Primary focus is Greater Toronto Area and Ontario provincial matters. We also cover Canadian federal news and select international stories with Canadian relevance. Hyperlocal coverage outside the GTA is limited — we're not trying to be everywhere.
